A Seminar on “Dengue fever” was held in the auditorium of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan on 25th October, 2010, under Chairmanship of Professor Dr. Muhammad Saeed Principal SZMC/H. A large no. of academic staff, consultant, Doctors, Nurses and Para Medical staff attended this seminar. Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Yar Malik Associate Prof. Community Medicine, Dr. Abdul Hakeem Associate Prof. Pathology, Dr. Abdul Waheed Assistant Prof. Medicine addressed the participants in the seminar & highlighted its magnitude, the world over & in Pakistan clinical presentation, laboratory diagnosis preventive & control measures regarding Dengue fever. Dr. Capt. Mustaq Ahmad M.S SZH, while speaking in the seminar, said that 4 cases have been confirmed out of 9 reported cases in SZH. He further added that treatment facilities of Dengue fever is available in this hospital. Prof. Dr. Adress Anwar Prof. of Surgery, said in his concluding remarks that SZH will launch special campaign to create awareness among general public.

A symposium was organized jointly by the Department of Pediatric Medicine & Department of Cardiology, Sheikh Zayed Medical College /Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, on 30/09/2010 at 09:30 am in the Auditorium of this institution. Professor Dr. Masood Sadiq, Professor of Paeds Cardiology, Children Hospital Lahore was the chief guest and he delivered the two lectures on “Diagnosis & Management of Heart Failure in Children” and “Future of Paeds Cardiology in Pakistan”. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed, Principal, SZMC/SZH along with senior faculty members, PGRs, Medical Officers and House Officers attended this symposium. At the end of this session the worthy speaker offered training and facilitation in Paeds Cardiology at Children Hospital, Lahore to the Doctors from this institution. This symposium ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Rashid Mehmood, Head of Pediatric Medicine department, of this institution.

A Symposium was organized by Pakistan Cardiac Society in collaboration with Pakistan Hypertension League & Pfizer Pakistan Limited under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Naeem Aslam Head of Cardiology Department SZMC R.Y.K. It was chaired by honorable Principal of SZMC R.Y.K Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed,who also delivered the inaugural speech, signifying the need for timely and effective measures to prevent   hypertension. The distinguished speakers, Prof. Dr. Masood Sadiq, Professor of Pediatric Cardiology, Children Hospital, Lahore and Dr. Bilal Mohy-ud-Din, Assistant Professor of Cardiology, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore, delivered their lectures on “New National Guidelines of 2010 for Detection, Prevention, Control & Management of Hypertension”. The symposium was attended by large number of participants, Senior Faculty members, Senior Medical Doctors of the city, Consultants, specialists, PGRs, and Medical Officers & General Practitioners from Rrahim Yar Khan, Khan Pur, Sadiq Abad, and Liaqat Pur. In the end Prof. Dr. Naeem Aslam gave concluding remarks and thanked all the participants.

Prof. Dr. Amir Aziz, Country’s renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon visited the Orthopaedic Department at Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan as a representative of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. He discussed about the available Facilities, Operations going-on & skills, Management and Treatment plan for Orthopaedic Trauma. He will present the recommendations about the accreditation of Orthopaedic department with CPSP for the fellowship training programme. Prof. Dr. Amir Aziz also delivered his lecture on “Medical Students Syndrome”. On the behalf of the Principal, a shield was presented to him by Surgeon Prof. Dr. Idrees Anwar. In the end, Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed offered his words of thanks.

Flood Relief Committee, Sheikh Zayed Medical College & Hospital has established medical camps for provision of health facilities to the flood-hit population in different sectors of District Rahim Yar Khan. In these medical camps, medical teams comprising of specialist, male & female doctors and paramedical staff are working day and night for effective treatment of broken- out epidemics among the survivors of flood - affected areas. Theses affected areas of Rahim Yar Khan are Dera Masheer, Ahmed Pur Lama, Khaima-Basti Kacha Bhutta, Khaima-Basti Pir Adil, Khaima-Basti Ahmed Wah and Bhong. This was told by the Principal Prof. Dr. Muhamad Saeed, from 10th August 2010 to 15 September 2010, free medicines have been provided to about 67254 ( 67 thousands two hundreds and fifty four ) flood-hit victims suffering from various diseases. For provision of medicines to the working medical teams, “Base Camp” has been established in the principal office. He further added. Principal Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan appealed the philanthropists to donate the medicines and financial-aid for medical help of the ailing humanity in flood-hit areas.

On the advice of Principal Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan, flood relief committee has specially assigned the duties of Medical Officers for medical camps in District Rahim Yar Khan, regarding “Eid-ul-Fitar” holidays. As the epidemics like Dirrahoea, Dysentry, Other GIT problems, Skin diseases, Fever and Worms infestations have broken out among the survivors of flood-hit population, the medical treatment will be provided properly to the flood affectees. The medical camps established in flood affected areas of Dera Masheer, Ahmed Pur Lama, Khaima-Basti Kacha Bhutta, Khaima-Basti Pir Adil, Khaiam-Basti Ahmed Wah and Bhong will work day & night (round the clock) for treatment and provision of free medicines to flood victims suffering from various diseases.

In view of prevailing tragic and disastrous flood situation in Rahim Yar Khan, Principal of SZMC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed has cancelled all kinds of leaves including summer vacations of Academic & Non-Academic staff of Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan. All the Academic & Non-Academic staff on-leave are hereby directed to resume their duties with immediate effect with report to Principal office/Medical Superintendent office.

Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital has organized a large number of medical teams comprising of Physicians, Surgeons, Male & Female doctors and Paramedical Staff, for the treatment of flood-hit population in district Rahim Yar Khan & District Rajanpur. These medical teams will start working from today day & night for the ailing humanity in flood areas. This was decided in a meeting of Academic Council held on today, presided by the Principal SZMC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed.
Addressing to the Professors of Academic Council, he said that today four medical teams with all medicine and ambulances have been sent to the flood affected areas. The other medical teams are being managed to send in next days till the relief of flood victims.

Principal’s Flood Relief Fund has been established in Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan for the help of flood-hit population of District Rahim Yar Khan and District Rajanpur. He has constituted a committee, headed by Dr. Anwar Rehan (Anaesthetist) for collection of donations for flood relief work. Principal has appealed to all the doctors, paramedics and philanthropist to donate generously for flood relief camps.

Principal and teaching staff of SZMC expressed the profound grief and sorrow at the sudden demise of Ch. Rasheed Ahmed on 2nd August 2010 (Inna Lillahe wa Inna Elayhi Raajeoon). May Allah bestow the best of “Jannah” upon the departed soul and provide his family and friends with “Sabar-e-Jamil” to bear this eternal lost AMEEN. Late Ch. Rasheed Ahmed offered his services for Sheikh Zayed Medical College /Hospital Rahim Yar Khan as member of Board of Governor from 30.09.2002 to 26.10.2003 and also Senior member of Board of Management from 27.10.2003 upto date. He presided many meetings of BOM as Acting Chairman and offered a lot of proposals for the better progress and management of the Medical Complex.

A farewell party was arranged in the honor of Ex-Commandant CMH Rahim Yar Khan Col. Dr. Tufail Ahmed. New commandant CMH Col. Dr. Syed Asif Ali and Maj. Syed T.M. Kazmi were also present. In his address, Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed said that their unforgettable services will be remembered forever. In the end, Shields were presented to them on their visit to SZMC.

Teaching faculty of SZMC arranged a farewell dinner for outgoing Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Zahoor and Prof. Dr. Capt. Rasheed Ahmed. Addressing the faculty members, Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed said that the services of both Professors in teaching will be remembered for ever as milestone in the history of this college. In their guidance college has progressed a lot academically, he added. On next day, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology also arranged a dinner with Ghazal program in the honor of these two Retired Professors.

College of physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) announced the accreditation for FCPS training in Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging at Sheikh Zayed Medical College / Hospital Rahim Yar Khan. This will be effective from April 24, 2010. The following 15 disciplines of this institution have already been fully accredited, 1. Forensic Medicine, 2. Dermatology, 3. Hematology, 4. Psychiatry, 5.Pulmonology, 6. Neuro Surgery, 7. General Surgery, 8. General Medicine, 9. Gynecology & Obstetrics, 10. Paediatrics, 11. Oto-Rhino-Laryngology (ENT), 12. Ophthalmology(Eye), 13. Urology, 14. Community Medicine, 15. Anesthesia.

Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Commissioner Bahawalpur Division along with Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi DCO Rahim Yar Khan visited Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex on 17th June, 2010. Here he was welcomed by Principal & Project Director of SZMC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed and Chairman Board of Management SZMC Ch. Muhammad Munir. During his visit, he did inspection of under-construction blocks of Emergency, C.C.U., MRI and Nursing Hostel also discussed about the layout plan of Medical Complex. Later on, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division presided a meeting held in Committee room where a briefing about construction work in progress and next futures plans was presented to him by the Principal. Ch. Muhammad Munir Chairman B.O.M. told that Chief Minister Punjab is very keen interested in the completion of this medical complex and he has assured for approval of maximum financial aid. Commissioner Bahawalpur in his address advised the Principal to maintain the standards of construction upto the mark and to use his all abilities for the completion of this gracious medical complex.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed Principal of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan is elected a member of Pakistan Medical Dental Council in a meeting held here on 02-05-2010. A maximum number of teaching faculties' member of SZMC attended this meeting. He was nominated by Prof. Dr. Abdul karim and no opposed him. Prof. Dr. Sayed Muhammad Owais was the election commissioner from PMDC Islamabad and he approved the name of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed as representative of SZMC Rahim Yar Khan for PMDC Council.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed Principal Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan inaugurated here Ist Art Exhibition on 29th April 2010 which was arranged by student art society. Logo of the society was prepared by Sharjeel Murtaza student of 4th year class Students of all classes took part enthusiastically in this exhibition. Faculty member doctors and student of SZMC visited this exhibition and appreciated the fascinating skills of student in the filed of sketching, modeling calligraphy and paintings. Shields were awarded to the principal, patron in-chief Prof. Dr. Athar Maqbool and President of the society Syed Shams-ul-Hassan student of Final year class. Principal distributed the certificates among the position and participants.

Three days CPSP workshop on "Communication Skills" for trainees held on 26th to 28th April 2010 at Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan. 24 PGRs participated in this workshop. Facilitator of this workshop Sqn. Leader Pervaz Bashir (Retd.) delivered his lectures about communication skills. Principal SZMC Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed distributed certificates to the participants in the completion of workshop.

Two days course of primary Trauma care with cooperation of PTC—UK was conducted by Orthopedic Department, SZMC Rahim Yar Khan. A lot of Gen. Surgeons, Orthopedic Surgeons and other doctors of the Medical College attended the workshop. Guest's speakers and trainers for PTC were Dr. Saeed Minhas Associate Professor of Ortho. Deptt. JPMC Karachi, Dr. Shamas Nadeem Assoc. Prof. of Ortho. Deptt. Dow Medical College Karachi and Dr. Faisal Nazar Assoc. Prof. Avicena Medical College Lahore who delivered their excellent lectures and demonstrated practically how to deal with the trauma surgically. Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed principal of SZMC Rahim Yar Khan congratulated Prof. Dr. Irfan Mehboob and his team of Ortho. Deptt. To arrange the workshop for the training of surgeons and doctors so that they may further be able to manage the injured persons using their skill effectively .

Dr. Muhammad Saeed Bajwa Professor of Neurosurgery at State University of New York and chairman Department of Neurosurgery Wilson Regional Nuro-center jhonsoncity New York visited Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan on 29th March 2010, where he was warmly welcomed by the principal of Medical College. He also delivered his excellent lecture on BRAIN TUMOURS in Auditorium. All the consultants, teaching staff and doctors of Clinical and Basic Department attended this seminar.Dr. Saeed Bajwa cordially invited the Doctors for Post-Graduation in Neurosurgery to come in USA on recommendation of Principal Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan and I will pay all the expenses of education and residence till the completion of training in America. In the end, the Principal presented a college souvenir to the honorable guest Prof. Dr. Saeed Bajwa and paid thanks on the behalf of all the teaching staff.

A 33rd Meeting Board of Management of Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Rahim Yar Khan was held on 26-03-2010 at 3:45 pm under the chairmanship of Ch. Muhammad Munir Chairman Board of Management. Principal SZMC/SZH Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed , Miss. Zaib Jaffar MPA / Political Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab , Dr. Javed Umar EDO (Health) Bwp , Dr. Makhdoom Muhammad Hussain Member BOM , Ch. Bashir Ahmad Advocate Member BOM , Dr. Amjad Ali Shah Hamdani Member BOM and Dr. Capt. (Rtd) Mushtaq Ahmad MS / Secretary BOM attended the meeting and also visited the SZH hospital.

Literary and week 2010 was celebrated from 16-24th March 2010 at Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan. Ch. Muhammad Iiyas secretary regulation Govt. of Punjab and Dr. Ahmad javaid Qazi DCO Rahim Yar Khan were Chief guests. Teaching staff and Male & female students of the college participated in large number. Speakers took part warmly their arguments in favour and against the topics of debates were appreciated by the audience & viewers. Pattern in Chief Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed Principal SZMC congratulated to the management committee. He appreciated the speaking abilities and deeds of the participants who took part in literary and cultural week. He praised and congratulated the winners also. During his address he said that these extra-curricular activities encourage the students to relieve the tensions and stress during their study in medical education

6th Annual Flower Show 2010, District Rahim Yar Khan was held from 12th March to 14th March 2010, at Govt. Kh. Fareed Post Graduate College, Rahim Yar Khan. . Sheikh Zayed Medical College Horticulture Department also participated in it and got FIRST POSITION in 6th Annual Flower Show 2010.

The five worthy council members of CPSP visited Sheikh Zayed Medical College and all the fellows of the college. In their address they highlighted the recent changes in training structure of CPSP and also the increased international credibility and recognition of the college. They highlighted all the efforts the college is doing to improve the resident in various training programs. They promised to develop a regional center in Rahim Yar center . They congratulated the college for recent induction of Professor Mohammad Idrees Anwer in the Faculty who is a renowned educationist and can conduct most of the workshops for the college. They promised to develop further ties with the Sheikh Zayed Medical College and hoped for long lasting and fruitful interaction among two institutions. The meeting ended with word of thanks from Professor Mohammad Saeed, way for this occasion.

The First Convocation 2010 of Sheikh Zayed Medical College was Held on 3rd march 2010. The Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif honoured this auspicious occasion as the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of UHS Prof. Malik Hussain Mubbashar and Secretary Health Punjab Mr. Fawad Hassan Fawad joined as the distinguished guest. The Chairman Board of Management Ch. Muhammad Munir with members, the faculty members of SZMC, the dignitaries of the City Rahim Yar Khan, fresh graduate with their parents and medical students of this college were also present at this occasion. Chief Minister Punjab conferred awards to the fresh graduates and medical students position holders of this college and Vice Chancellor of UHS distributed the degrees to the fresh graduates of SZMC and Chief . Chief Minister Punjab also conferred shields to Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed SZMC/SZH, Prof Dr. Eice Mohammad (Ex-Principal SZMC), Chairman Board of Management Ch. Muhammad Munir and others members of the faculty of this medical college.

UHS computer lab is established in the phase 1 Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex/Hospital near Anatomy Department of this institution. The honorable Vice Chancellor of UHS Prof. Malik Hussain Mubbashar inaugurated the UHS Computer Lab along with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed Principal SZMC/SZH , Prof Dr. Eice Mohammad (Ex-Principal SZMC), and other honorable faculty members were also present at this occasion

A Day Care Centre in Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital has been established for the children of the employee of this institution. The honorable Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed inaugurated the Day Care Centre along with Dr. Makhdoom Basharat Hussain ( EDO Health) , Medical Superintendent and other staff member were also present at this occasion.

A seminar was organized by EDO Health under chairmanship of DCO in the auditorium of SZMC RYK. Honorable Ch. Jafar Iqbal Gujjar Ex-Health Minister of Punjab was the distinguished guest. Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed SZMC/SZH was the Chief Guest of the seminar. All the faculty members, students of SZMC, Doctors from the periphery and general public of the city attended the seminar.

Principal/Project Director along with the staff of Project Management Office (PMO) visited all the sites of ADP schemes and shows satisfaction with the progress of the work. He also added that the project has the top priority and all the work should be completed within the stipulated period.
