Establishment

Haemodialysis Unit in Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan was started in August 2000. We had four dialysis machines of COBE Company. These machines were used for patients with Hepatitis status negative. Now we have 8-machines, 6 machines of Toray Company and 2 machines use of Fresenius Company.

In March 2007. Dr. Safdar Ali Shah (MBBS) (KE), M.S. (Urology). FRCS (Edin. U.K) F. Mas (USA) was appointed as associate Professor and Head of Urology Department

Dialysis Facilities

We have six USA made dialysis machines of new model, working and maintained well with new three machines for Hepatitis C Positive and one machine for Hepatitis B Positive patients. We also have a Dialyser Reprocessor unit used to make the hollow fiber Dialysers re-usable. Two new latest machines by Fresenius Germany with OCM (online clearance monitoring) are working in 2009. Number of total dialysis done per month were about 100 in the start which has now after initiation of “free Haemodialysis program by Chief Minister Punjab” has now increased to 500 patient per month. We need at least 30 new machines and working staff to accommodate all the patients and maintain good follow up.

Future Plan

There is urgent need of kidney center to establish where we can do kidney transplantation for these end stage renal failure patient. The total burden of ESRD patient has increased to about > 600 per month, in this south region where incidence of renal disease is high.
