Ophthalmology Department of Sheikh Zayed Hospital was established from the start of the District Hospital Rahim Yar Khan in 1952.

Facilities

Eye Department comprises of 40-50 bedded ward, fully equipped OPD and Operation theatre. There are two diagnostic rooms equipped with Yag Laser, Argon Laser, Keratometer, Perkin’s tonometer and Ultrasound A & B scans. Latest Fundus Angiography is also available along with all the necessary diagnostic tools. Indoor also has a well established class room for teaching purposes. The OPD is fully furnished with latest equipment like Autorefrector, slit lamp Biomicroscopes, Direct Ophthalmoscopes, Indirect Ophthalmoscope, advanced Automated Visual Fields and latest Refraction Unit. 90D, 78D, Triple mirror Gonioscopes, Contact lens, Applanation Tonometer, Air puff Tonometer and four latest Slit lamps with Audio visual aid for teaching purpose. Our Theater is very well equipped with three operation tables, three microscopes, three Phaco Emulsification and one posterior Vitrectomy machines. General Anesthesia is also available in Eye O.T.

Achievements

Average monthly patients at OPD are seven thousand (7000) and approximately 550 admissions. We perform five local Anesthesia lists/week & one list of GA/week. We perform approximately 200 surgeries per month. The result in the final exams of Medical Students taken by UHS was 91% and 94% in 2007-08, 100% in both 2008-09 and 2009-10 sessions respectively. Moreover, this department is declared fully accredited for complete five years training of FCPS students after inspection of CPSP delegate
