Establishment

Plastic surgery department has been newly established at Sheikh Zayed Medical College / Hospital Rahim Yar Khan since February 2008.

The department was started and chaired by Dr. Muhammad Anwar, B.Sc., M.B.B.S (Gold Medalist), FCPS (Plast), M.D (USA)

Facilities

Burns & plastic surgery unit consists of 14 regular beds with 5 additional beds in general surgery. Plastic surgery department is rapidly progressing and expanding under the full guidance and support of Dr. Muhammad Saeed, Principal, Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan. The plan is to establish the most modern & state of the art Sheikh Zayed Burns & Reconstructive Surgery Institute at Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan. P.C-1 has been prepared and ready to be submitted for approval.

Achievements

During the calendar year 2009 there were 500 admissions including 280 acute burns, 1200 out-patient visits, and 260 operations were performed on a wide variety of plastic surgery patients. As the plastic surgery service is still in its infancy, it has not been recognized yet for postgraduate training leading to M.S, and F.C.P.S examinations. However, the general surgery postgraduate residents (PGRs) are regularly rotated to complete their mandatory plastic surgery training for FCPS examination.
