BRIEF HISTORY AND DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT:-
The Department of Nephrology & Hemodialysis was established in 2014 in Emergency Department of Sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan. It comprises of 56 beds including 14 beds for Male Ward, 14 beds for Female Ward and 08 beds for Emergency Dialysis. The Main Dialysis Unit was established in old emergency block 2014. It comprises of 20 beds and Hemodialysis machines. 24 hours dialysis services are provided in emergency block while patient who are on maintenance dialysis are treated in main dialysis center. The services including Hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continues therapies and renal biopsy are provided in Nephrology Department.

THE FACILITIES / SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE DEPARTMENT
- Nephrology Department is attached with two Haemodialysis center. Emergency Haemodialysis Unit provides services 24 hours and Main Haemodialysis center remains open on Morning Evening and Night shifts to facilitate scheduled patients who are maintenance Haemodialysis patients. Sheikh Zayed Hospital is situated at verge of three provinces. So the Department of Nephrology and Haemodialysis provides services to a large number of patients from Sindh and Baluchistan also.
- We are Supervising Haemodialysis Unit in THQ Khanpur having 8 Dialysis Machines, providing dialysis facility to patients of town and near by area.
- There is one room in OPD for Out Door Patients. Nephrology OPD days are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (Timings are Outdoor are 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM).
- Department of Nephrology is conducting Dialysis Technician Training Course with the affiliation of Punjab Medical Faculty to produce Paramedical Staff. We do free filter clinic in various town of District Rahim Yar khan with collaboration of PSN, ISN to see burden of CKD.
- A Departmental Library is available for ready reference in Nephrology Department. Latest additions of necessary books and Journals are available with internet facility.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Department of Nephrology is recognized with Pakistan Medical & Dental Council, Islamabad. The Date of recognition with PMDC is 3rd January 2022.
- Department of Nephrology is recognized with University of Health Sciences, Lahore. The date of recognition is 9th July 2018 for post graduate trainee for MD Nephrology.
- Department of Nephrology is recognized with College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan. The date of recognition is 6th July 2017 for post graduate trainee for FCPS Nephrology
- Department of Nephrology is recognized with Punjab Medical Faculty. The date of recognition is January 2015 for Dialysis Technician Course.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT PLANS OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Improvement in patient care in Intensive Care Unit.
- Provision of ventilator support for critically ill patients in Intensive Care Unit. with collaboration of Urology Department will start pre and post op care of Transplantation.
- AVF formation and post op care.
- Continues Renal Replacement therapies should be started soon.
