BRIEF HISTORY AND DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT OF PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Pathology Department has a pivotal role in both academic, diagnostic laboratory services to the ailing humanity and in Research & Development perspectives. Pathology Department, an integral part of the college was established on 10/03/2003 in the Clinical Laboratory of Sheikh Zayed Medical College/Hospital Complex Rahim Yar Khan and now MBBS classes have been shifted in newly constructed building of Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan with effect from November 2017.
DATE OF RECOGNITION OF DEPARTMENT WITH PMDC, USH AND CPSP
Pathology Department, Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan has been recognized with the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council w.e.f. 12-07-2006. Most importantly, Postgraduate teaching programme has been started since 2010. Chemical Pathology sections of this department have been accredited for FCPS-II training programme.

iv) Seminar/Tutorial Room:
Seminar room of this department is also established for Case Discussions, Presentations, Journal Club Meetings and to meet the day to day advances in Medical Sciences with the facility of LED and Multimedia.
v) Pathology Museum:
Pathology Museum is a very essential part of the Pathology Department. This is situated at a prime location that is in easily accessible for both teachers and students. At the time of beginning of the college, there were only 50 specimens in this museum but our continuous efforts the specimen numbers have increased upto 170. These specimens are adequately preserved, labeled in glass jars. This diverse collection is lying in wooden almirahs. All almirahs are filled with properly labeled pathological specimens. The system vise labeling of the almirahs have been done for easy approach to a specific specimen. 15-20 medical students can be accommodated comfortably around a set of two tables placed in the center of museum for discussion on the specimen.
vi) Departmental Library:
A departmental library with adequate number of essential books and periodicals/ journals are kept in it for the help and benefit of teaching staff. This helps the teachers to abreast them with the rapid intervention on the subject and attaining a grip and confidence in their respective field.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT
- Pathology Department successfully conducted the ChemCon2020 Conference “11th ChemCon 2020 Conference of Pakistan Society of Chemical Pathologists (26-27 June 2020)” and Workshop “Point of Care Testing in Primary Critical Care (27th June 2020)”.
- Two MBBS classes “3rd year MBBS & 4th year MBBS”, four classes of B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), in addition to classes of Doctorate of Physiotherapy (DPT), B.Sc. Operation Theatre Technology (OTT), B.Sc. Medical Imaging Technology (MIT) and 1st Year & 2nd Year BS Nursing (4 Year Program) are under teaching of Pathology Department.
During the current session “Session 2021-2022” the strength of 3rd year MBBS is 155, 4th year MBBS is 154, 1st year B.Sc. MLT is 20, 2nd year B.Sc. MLT is 10, 2nd year B.Sc. OTT is 07, 3rd year B.Sc. (MLT) is 10, 3rd year DPT is 10 & 4th/Final year B.Sc. MLT is 12. The strength of 1st Year B.Sc. Nursing is 100 and 2nd Year B.Sc. Nursing is also 100. The annual examinations of DPT/B.Sc. (Hons) Allied Health Sciences Degree classes are going on While the Annual Examinations of 1st Year B.Sc. Nursing is awaited result.
Like always, Pathology Department showed brilliant results in the last MBBS Annual Examinations 2021. 10 students obtained distinctions in 3rd Professional MBBS Annual Examination 2021 in the subject of General Pathology & Microbiology and 07 students obtained distinctions in 4th Professional MBBS Annual Examination 2021 in the subject of Special Pathology.
