HISTORY AND DATE OF ESTABLISHMENT OF DEPARTMENT
Sheikh Zayed Medical College (SZMC) is a long-standing dream came true of the people of southern Punjab especially district Rahim Yar Khan. Geographically district Rahim Yar Khan is situated at the borders of two provinces; Punjab and Sindh. Sheikh Zayed Medical College was established in 2003. But due to incomplete construction work of proposed rooms for basic departments; academic activities of first batch of 1st year MBBS Class were started at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College (QAMC), Bahawalpur in 2003. Sheikh Zayed Medical College Campus started its functioning in Jan, 2005, where admissions of 2005 reported. Later, second year class was called from QAMC to SZMC in April, 2005. New campus is proposed to be built at Mehmood Stadium almost 20 acres area adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex. Construction of New premises of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Rahim Yar Khan was completed in 2017. All the basic departments of SZMC shifted to newly built campus in November 2017.
INTRODUCTION:
The Department of Physiology is an integral part of stunning and impressive newly built campus of Sheikh Zayed Medical College, located in the heart of Rahim Yar Khan City. Building of Physiology Department has wide & well-ventilated rooms for different offices and laboratories equipped with modern teaching facilities. Laboratory has sitting capacity of 100 students. There is a record / computer room in the department to preserve all academic record of the students. There is a striking grassy lawn in the center of departmental building. All the rooms are well-lighted and fully air-conditioned. Well cleaned and sparkling toilets are exemplary.
OFFICES:
There are many offices in Physiology Department. All offices allocated for teaching and supporting staff are fully air-conditioned. The detail of diverse offices / rooms allocated for faculty members is as under:
One office for Head of the Department, one for Associate Professor , three for Assistant Professors, one office for female Demonstrators, one for male Demonstrators, one for PA to Professor, one for Junior Clerk / Computer Operator, one Store Keeper, one for Lab staff.

• Affiliation by University of Health Sciences, Lahore since 2003.
• Recognition by PMDC, Islamabad, Pakistan since 2003.
Department of Physiology, Sh. Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan was accredited with CPSP in December 2025.

i). 1st Head of Department: – Prof. Dr. Zafar H. Tanveer, Professor of Physiology took the charge as First Head of the department from 17.01.2005 to 29.02.2012.
ii). 2nd Head of Department: – Dr. Aftab Ahmad, was second Head of Department from 01.03.2012 to 28.07.2015.
iii). 3rd Head of Department: – Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmad, was third Head of Department from 28.07.2015 to 13.08.2015.
iv). 4th Head of Department: – Dr. Ibrahim Khan was 4th Head of the Department from 13.08.2015 to 29.07.2017.
v). 5th Head of Department: – Dr. Shama Iqbal, Assistant Professor of Physiology Department is the 5th Head of Department from 29.07.2017 to 20.05.2019.
vi). 6th Head of Department: – Prof. Dr. Zafar H. Tanveer, Professor of Physiology took the charge as 6th Head of the department & Principal SZMC, RYK from 20.05.2019 to 11.12.2019.
vii). 7th Head of Department: – Dr. Shama Iqbal, Associate Professor of Physiology Department.
viii). Present Head of Department: –Prof. Dr. Muhammad Usman Bashir Professor of Physiology Department is the Present Head of Department.

PHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY:
The Laboratory is vast enough to accommodate about 70 students at a time. The laboratory is equipped with all essential instruments, glassware and chemicals according to PMDC standards.
The laboratory and corridors have been decorated with beautiful charts made by students and artist of Physiology Department.
