INTRODUCTION
Thoracic Surgery the oldest specialties. The evolution of Knowledge has bring up many new specialties which are the need of time. But thoracic surgery is one of the oldest specialties. With the passage of time its scope is increasing in Pakistan.
Rahim yar khan is the last district of Punjab which is connecting to three provinces of Pakistan. There is vast area which is covered by this hospital from Karachi, Quetta to Multan in between no thoracic surgery unit exist.
This is the visionary decision of the authorities to give the facilities of thoracic surgery in this teaching hospital sheikh Zayed medical college /Hospital, Rahim Yar khan. This hospital is many recognized department including Cardiac surgery as well as. We are teaching our undergraduate as well as postgraduates students during ward rounds, in operation theaters, in tutorials & in clinic pathological conferences regularly.

STRUCTURE & SERVICES:
30 bedded unit of thoracic surgery, the newly established unit has started his work 3 days of OPD, one day O.T & emergency cover 24/7.
We are dealing with all type of procedures of thoracic surgery like open surgery. One elective list we are dealingwith pleural diseases, lung diseases, mediastinal diseases, tracheal diseases, esophageal diseases & diaphragmproblems.We are also dealing with all types of emergency procedures.
WORK LOAD:
As this hospital is covering large area of patients of our country, so workload of thoracic surgery as well as other patients is high.
ACADMIC & RESEARCH:
Our aim is to built – up knowledge full society & trained medical personels, so that we provide our service in better way.
CPC:- Every Monday & Saturday we hold clinical meeting on important subjects in the wards.
IN FUTURE:
Our worthy principal aim to provide all kind of facilities in one place to the patients, so we are trying to start minimal invasive thoracic surgery soon in our ward. Our vision is to make the state of art department of thoracic surgery in sheikh Zayed Hospital, Rahim Yar Khan.
